DescriptionN4-Acetylaminobutanal belongs to the class of organic compounds known as alpha-hydrogen aldehydes. These are aldehydes with the general formula HC(H)(R)C(=O)H, where R is an organyl group. N4-Acetylaminobutanal exists in all living species, ranging from bacteria to plants to humans. N4-Acetylaminobutanal has been detected, but not quantified in, several different foods, such as common thymes (Thymus vulgaris), german camomiles (Matricaria recutita), winged beans (Psophocarpus tetragonolobus), yellow wax beans (Phaseolus vulgaris), and teas (Camellia sinensis). This could make N4-acetylaminobutanal a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods. Based on a literature review very few articles have been published on N4-Acetylaminobutanal.
