Chemical Information
FooDB Namesecologanate
DescriptionSecologanate, also known as secologanic acid, is a member of the class of compounds known as terpene glycosides. Terpene glycosides are prenol lipids containing a carbohydrate moiety glycosidically bound to a terpene backbone. Secologanate is soluble (in water) and a weakly acidic compound (based on its pKa). Secologanate can be found in a number of food items such as komatsuna, french plantain, shallot, and japanese persimmon, which makes secologanate a potential biomarker for the consumption of these food products.
