Chemical Information
FooDB NamePetunin
DescriptionPetunin belongs to the class of organic compounds known as anthocyanidin-5-o-glycosides. These are phenolic compounds containing one anthocyanidin moiety which is O-glycosidically linked to a carbohydrate moiety at the C5-position. Petunin has been detected, but not quantified in, several different foods, such as common peas (Pisum sativum), rose hips (Rosa), sweet basils (Ocimum basilicum), common grapes (Vitis vinifera), and green beans (Phaseolus vulgaris). This could make petunin a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods. Based on a literature review very few articles have been published on Petunin.
