Para cresols are compounds containing a para cresol moiety, which consists of a benzene ring bearing one hydroxyl group at ring positions 1 and 4. 4,5-dimethyl-2-ethylphenol is practically insoluble (in water) and a very weakly acidic compound (based on its pKa). 4,5-dimethyl-2-ethylphenol can be found in pot marjoram, which makes 4,5-dimethyl-2-ethylphenol a potential biomarker for the consumption of this food product.
