Butyrophenone is a member of the class of compounds known as alkyl-phenylketones. Alkyl-phenylketones are aromatic compounds containing a ketone substituted by one alkyl group, and a phenyl group. Butyrophenone is practically insoluble (in water) and an extremely weak acidic compound (based on its pKa). Butyrophenone has a cherry taste. Examples of butyrophenones include: Haloperidol, the most widely used classical antipsychotic drug in this class Benperidol, the most potent commonly used antipsychotic ( 200 times more potent than chlorpromazine) .
