DescriptionPummelo, Citrus maxima, is a citrus fruit native to Southeast Asia. It is widely consumed in China, Southeast Asia, and the United States. The fruit is often eaten fresh, used in salads, and made into juice. The flesh of the pummelo is pale yellow or pink, with a mild grapefruit-like taste and a sweet, slightly sour odor. Pummelo is rich in vitamin C, potassium, and fiber, providing several health benefits, including boosting the immune system and supporting digestive health. The most notable chemical in pummelo is limonene, a compound with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties (PMID: 35677374, PMID: 37241861). In traditional medicine, pummelo is used to treat various ailments, including fever and cough. Industrially, the peel of the pummelo is used to produce essential oils.
