The examples below represent the future of FooDB.

ChemView

ChemView contains 2 example food components; this view will eventually contain over 25,000 food components, each annotated to the same level of detail. Users will be able to search by structure similarity, name, description, chemical formula, and other fields.

Food Component Structure Description
L-Ascorbic acid Structure L-Ascorbic acid is the reduced form of vitamin C. L-Ascorbic acid occurs widely in animals and plants; good sources are citrus fruits and many vegetables.
Genistein Structure Genistein is a phenolic compound belonging to the isoflavonoid group. Isoflavonoids are found mainly in soybean. Genistein and daidzein (another isoflavonoid) represent the major phytochemicals found in this plant.

FoodView

FoodView contains 2 example foods; this view will eventually contain over 600 foods (a food constitutes a unique food "group"; for example, foods such as "Apple, red delicious" and "Apple, baked" are considered one food). Each annotated entry will contain a similar or greater level of detail. Users will be able to search foods by name, description, taste, aroma, and classification, as well as other fields.
